Privacy Policy

What we collect when you use this site, why, who helps us handle it, and how to reach us about it. Plain words, no surprises.

This policy covers scholasophia.org, run by Schola Sophia LLC, a Colorado limited liability company (“we,” “us”). It applies to information we collect through this website, our forms, our booking page and our email updates.

What we collect

  • What you give us. When you fill in a form, book a call or join an interest list, we collect what you enter: usually your name, work email, organization, role and anything you write in a message.
  • Email updates. If you subscribe to The Human Edge, we collect your email address to send new essays and episodes.
  • How you use the site. Like most websites, we collect basic usage information through cookies and similar tools: pages visited, how you arrived, approximate location from your IP address, browser and device type.
  • Spam protection. Form submissions are screened for spam, which involves processing details such as your IP address and browser.

How we use it

  • To reply to you, schedule and hold the conversations you ask for, and follow up on them.
  • To send updates you asked for, such as The Human Edge or news about an event you registered interest in. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
  • To understand which pages are useful and improve the site and our programs.
  • To keep the site secure and free of spam.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.

Who helps us

We use a small number of service providers who process information on our behalf:

  • Automattic (WordPress.com, Jetpack and Akismet): hosts the site, runs our forms, site statistics, email subscriptions and spam filtering.
  • HubSpot: keeps our contact records, runs our booking page and measures site visits.
  • Substack: hosts the full text of our essays. If you follow a link there or subscribe there, Substack’s own privacy policy applies.

We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or someone’s safety.

Cookies

HubSpot sets cookies that help us recognize return visits and connect form submissions to the pages that led to them. WordPress.com and Jetpack set cookies needed to run the site and count visits. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work, though some features such as booking may need them.

How long we keep it

We keep contact and form information as long as we have a working relationship with you or a reason to follow up, and delete it when it is no longer needed unless the law requires us to keep it longer. You can ask us to delete it sooner.

Your choices

  • Unsubscribe from any email using the link at the bottom of it.
  • Ask us what information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it.
  • Ask us to stop using your information for any purpose you no longer agree to.

Email edwinemichel@scholasophia.org and we will respond within 30 days.

Children

This site is meant for adults and organizations. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, tell us and we will delete it.

Security

We use reputable providers and reasonable safeguards to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so we collect only what we need.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the date at the top.
